HomeGrid Forum, today announced that one of the largest global semiconductor companies – Marvell Semiconductor, Inc. (NASDAQ - MRVL) – has joined HomeGrid Forum and has been appointed to the organization’s board of directors.
Marvell will join BT, Intel, Lantiq, Sigma Designs, Telefonica, Texas Instruments and others on the board. Marvell’s addition to the board reinforces the growing importance and broadening adoption of G.hn as the next-generation global standard for wired home networking.
But Wait. I Thought They Were Focused on Mobility....
A quick visit to Marvell's site has the company positioned as a mobile lifestyle semiconductor company. So if life is mobile, why are they looking to the wired home network and specifically the G.hn standard?
Take a clue from an announcement at CES, introducing the first media server with built-in Powerline Communications (PLC) network connectivity.
Their technology provides an integrated home media server that offers developers and users a new way to connect devices across the home network and share personal media and cloud-based content – including photos, video, music and games – using existing electrical wiring already available in the home.
